The Stormweaver Spark build is arguably the best league starter build in Path of Exile 2. Add Cast on Critical (CoC) Comet to it, and it becomes an even stronger endgame build. With its excellent map-clearing speed and easy-to-play gameplay, this build is well worth trying as your league starter.
Why Use Stormweaver CoC Comet Spark Build?

This build is beginner-friendly and easy to play. Despite its simple skill set, it clears maps very quickly without requiring perfect aim. From the early stages of progression, Spark can already wipe out groups of enemies with just a few Support Gems. Add Elemental Remnants to the build, and your damage increases even further.
The build revolves around Spark, Orb-of-Storms, and Frost-Bomb as your main damage skills during the early game.
However, the real power comes in the endgame, when you unlock Cast-on-Critical and pair it with Comet. Add Elemental-Weakness and Sigil-of-Power, and your elemental damage increases significantly.
If you are looking for a fast-clearing, high-damage, and easy-to-play league starter build, this is an excellent choice.
Early Campaign Progression Guide
Skills and Rotation
As soon as you get the Spark Skill Gem from the first chest, equip it to your primary attack button, as it will be your main DPS skill throughout the build. When you obtain another Skill Gem, unlock Frost-Bomb to further increase your elemental damage.
Once you unlock Flame-Wall and Orb-of-Storms, they create elemental remnants that enhance your Spark, increasing both its damage and area of effect.
A single Orb of Storms is usually enough for weaker enemies. However, once you have socketed both Unleash and Overabundance-i, you will automatically deploy two Orb of Storms with a single cast, greatly increasing your damage output.
The rotation during the early stages is very simple:
Frost Bomb > Flame Wall > Spark > Spark > Spark
or
Frost Bomb > Orb of Storms > Spark > Spark > Spark
Make sure to use Frost Bomb, Flame Wall, and Orb of Storms whenever possible to maximize the damage of your Spark.
Deploy Orb of Storms and make sure to cast your spells from inside its area, as it will fire lightning bolts that chain between enemies. For Frost Bomb, wait for it to explode and create Frozen Ground, then cast Spark over it to further amplify its damage and area of effect.
Equipment
From the early campaign through the late campaign, your gear priorities remain the same. Use a Tiara, Robe, Gloves, and Sandals to maximize your Energy Shield.
The prefixes you should prioritize at this stage are Maximum Life and Added Energy Shield. Mana Regeneration is also a useful bonus. For elemental resistance, socket Glacial, Desert, and Storm Runes into your armor's jewel sockets.
For your staff, always prioritize + Levels to All Spell Skills or + Levels to Lightning Spell Skills, followed by Cast Speed and then % Increased Spell Damage. These stats form the foundation of your overall DPS.
If you come across an amulet with + Spirit, keep it. You will need it later in the build.
Mid to Late Campaign Progression
Skills and Rotation
In Act 3, you should start using a second weapon set with a Chiming-Staff, which grants you access to Sigil-of-Power. This secondary weapon set is used exclusively for casting buffs such as Frost Bomb, Sigil of Power, and Elemental-Weakness, all of which significantly increase your elemental damage.
Refer to the passive skill tree planner included in this build to see which passive skills are assigned to each weapon set.
Once you have unlocked these skills, your standard rotation for clearing mobs should be:
Sigil of Power (if there are elite enemies) > Frost Bomb > Orb of Storms > Spark > Spark > Spark > Flame Wall (if needed) > Spark > Spark > Spark
When fighting bosses, use the following rotation:
Sigil of Power > Elemental Weakness > Frost Bomb > Orb of Storms > Spark > Spark > Spark
You can also use Mana-Tempest as your opening skill. However, make sure to step into the field only long enough to gain the buff before stepping back out, otherwise, your mana will drain very quickly.
Endgame Progression
Skills and Rotation
This is where the build goes from powerful to truly exceptional. As soon as you have at least 121 Spirit, you can expand the build by adding Cast-on-Critical (CoC) Comet. Whenever you land a critical strike, Comet will automatically be cast, dealing massive burst damage and filling the screen with icy meteors.
The core gameplay revolves around triggering Comet automatically through Spark, so your skill rotation remains the same as before.
Once you unlock Elemental Equilibrium on the passive skill tree, Orb of Storms will deal cold damage, while Frost Bomb provides fire infusion. Together, they enhance Comet, allowing it to unleash devastating explosions of ice and fire.
Use Convalescence as your emergency skill, as it instantly restores your Energy Shield.
Equipment
The only piece of equipment you truly need to maximize this build's damage is Maligaro-s-Virtuosity unique gloves. These gloves lock your Critical Damage Multiplier while significantly increasing your Critical Hit Chance.
When combined with the Pinpoint-Critical Support Gem, your critical hit chance becomes even higher, and the gem's Critical Damage penalty is effectively negated because Maligaro's Virtuosity locks your Critical Damage Multiplier.
Another important thing to note is that once you equip Call-of-the-brotherhood, you should stop prioritizing Added Lightning Damage and instead focus on Added Cold Damage because of the damage conversion.
Support Gems
Make sure to socket Pinpoint Critical into Spark, Cast on Critical Strike, and Orb of Storms. As mentioned earlier, this Support Gem greatly increases the critical hit chance of these skills, while its Critical Damage penalty is ignored thanks to Maligaro's Virtuosity.
You should also socket Efficiency-ii into any mana-intensive skills to reduce their mana cost. This helps improve mana sustain and can solve most of your mana issues.
Spirit
To reach the Spirit requirement for this build, look for additional Spirit from the following sources:
- Campaign side quests
- Staff prefix
- Amulet prefix
- Robe prefix
- Helmet corruption
That concludes the Stormweaver CoC Comet Spark build in PoE 2! If you are looking for a powerful league starter that scales into one of the strongest endgame builds, this is definitely one worth trying.
